October comes to a close and November is here. The end of the year is right around the corner! With the end of the year fast approaching certain milestones are coming into view. The Way To Life is in full swing with a strong portion of the game put together and playable and ASSIAH's pre-production timeline has undergone some shifts that will have positive down stream effects. Let's get into it!
~ THE WAY TO LIFE ~
The Way To Life has seen a lot of progress on the games core programming. Though the game isn't complicated mechanically this is the first time I've personally taken on programming so there's a massive learning curve involved in getting even the simple things into the game.
A big part of The Way To Life that's seen progress is the visuals. Large set pieces have been modeled and textured with shaders put together such as the above portal set piece which will be quickly visible from the games start. Without revealing too much about the experience each set piece is intrinsically tied to the story of the character associated with them which has made them fun to piece together. There is news regarding the release window that I feel is important to share. The November release window is still the goal but there are some back end things that need to happen that are currently out of our hands, so fingers crossed that those tasks get seen to before too long so that we can secure our November date with no issues. The fortunate part of making The Way To Life is that it's a very flexible development process, so if we need to adjust the release date we can and not have any issues regarding ASSIAH or other projects on our plate.
While we prepare for release we've been making the art assets necessary for Steam. Here's a sneak peak with a fresh look at a work in progress of the games title card!
~ ASSIAH ~
In addition to The Way To Life, ASSIAH has seen some progress as well. Once December rolls around there will be a closer look at ASSIAH's project timeline. This will tell us more about the scope of the game and the resources needed to meet that scope. The script edits and level outlines that we've made thus far are a part of this process that we've already begun working on which was discussed already in the previous Margin Notes post.
This project timeline will be beneficial to ASSIAH in many ways, primarily in giving us a springboard into resource management on the various stages of development as well as giving us a concrete understanding of the work that lies ahead on the project so that there are the least amount of unforeseen complications as possible. Granted, there will always been complications, but this will help us minimize them substantially.
The less glamorous backend pre-production work isn't all that's on the plate for ASSIAH. I'm happy to be able to show a little sneak peak at something really fun! Leading up to the launch of ASSIAH there will be three releases of a prologue comic series. Each one will tell the story of the player character, the SOLDR, and how he came to wear the armor that you can see him in above. While I can't show too much about them you can get a glimpse at two of the pages below from the first of the prologue comics titled "ASSIAH: Knight".
And finally, to make up for the missed lore post from last week here are not one, but TWO lore posts for ASSIAH! These posts are also live in the Archive.
There's more to share but unfortunately it'll have to wait until the next Margin Notes post (and some of it until even later!). Thanks for reading and keep an eye on the social media pages linked below for updates on The Way To Life's Steam page as well as more sneak peaks to ASSIAH.
